The Caisse Centrale de la France d'Outre-Mer was established by de Gaulle's provisional government in 1944 to issue currency across France's overseas territories as they were liberated or reintegrated — a deliberate financial reassertion of French authority after the disruptions of occupation and Vichy. This 10 Francs note, printed at the Banque de France's own workshops with engraving split between Hourriez on the obverse and Chapon on the reverse, reflects the institution's early reliance on metropolitan production capacity for colonial currency.
Pick 20 covers a wide geographic range of intended circulation, from the Antilles to Réunion. Notes of this denomination saw heavy use and survivors in collectible grades are genuinely uncommon.
