Katanga has not functioned as an independent issuing authority since its failed secession from the Congo ended in 1963, yet coins bearing its name have been produced intermittently for the collector market decades after that political entity ceased to exist. These aluminium pieces are collector-targeted fantasy issues with no circulation history and no legal tender function in any recognized jurisdiction.
