A.P.O. 600 was the Army Post Office designation for U.S. forces in North Africa during World War II, placing this note within the operational theater of the Tunisia campaign and its aftermath. Officers' clubs in forward areas routinely issued scrip of this kind to keep hard currency — and especially Allied Military Currency — out of local black markets, where exchange rate manipulation was a persistent problem for military administrators.
The 301st Ordnance Regiment provided maintenance and supply support to armored and motorized units. Their club scrip had no value outside the mess, which was exactly the point.
