The Institut d'Émission d'Outre-Mer was established in 1966 to manage currency for France's Pacific territories — but this piece predates that institution, which creates a cataloging curiosity: coins bearing the IEOM name circulated before the institute formally existed in its reorganized statutory form, issued under transitional monetary arrangements as France restructured its overseas financial administration following decolonization pressures of the early 1960s.
