Additional information

This issue coincides almost exactly with de Gaulle's aggressive monetary policy of the 1960s, during which France systematically exchanged its dollar reserves for gold at the U.S. Treasury — a direct challenge to Bretton Woods that helped destabilize the entire postwar monetary order. The 10 Franc silver denomination itself was a product of the 1960 redenomination, which replaced the old franc at 100:1.

Production ended in 1973, the same year France finally floated the franc. By then, the silver content alone exceeded face value, and most pieces had long since left circulation for hoards.
