The Banque du Royaume du Burundi — the Bank of the Kingdom of Burundi — existed for a remarkably short window. Burundi gained independence in 1962 as a constitutional monarchy under Mwami Mwambutsa IV, but a military coup in 1966 abolished the monarchy entirely and the bank's royal mandate with it. Notes bearing the kingdom's title were demonetized and largely destroyed, which pushes genuine circulated examples into genuine scarcity rather than manufactured rarity.
Thomas De La Rue handled the entire series, as they did for the majority of newly independent African states in this period — practical geography of the London printing trade rather than any political preference.
