Additional information

The "Status Aparte" coins commemorate Aruba's 1986 separation from the Netherlands Antilles, when the island achieved its own autonomous status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands — a political arrangement it had lobbied for since the late 1970s, driven largely by Aruban resentment of Curaçao's administrative dominance over the Antillean federation. The Centrale Bank van Aruba has issued this gold denomination periodically since independence, with mintages typically kept very small given the island's population of under 120,000.
