Additional information

Hunan was among the later provinces to establish a modern mint, opening its facility in Changsha in 1897 under pressure from the Qing central government's push to standardize provincial coinage following the success of the Guangdong mint model. The six-character reverse inscription distinguishes this variety from the more common five-character type — a minor but catalogued distinction reflecting inconsistent die preparation during the early production runs.
