| 表面の説明 | Central field features the four large Chinese characters 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) arranged prominently, with Manchu script rendered vertically in the centre between the characters. The upper arc of the beaded inner border bears the provincial legend 湖南省造 (Made in Hunan Province), while the lower arc carries the denomination inscription 庫平七錢二分 (Kuping 7 mace 2 candareens). Floral rosette devices appear at the left and right sides of the inner field, flanking the central inscriptions. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner circle and a plain outer rim with milled edge. |

Hunan was among the last of the major provincial mints to begin striking machine-made silver coinage, coming online only after sustained pressure from Beijing to standardize currency across the empire. The Four Characters designation distinguishes this type from later Hunan issues that added additional inscription elements — a distinction that matters considerably for attribution, as the two types are frequently conflated in older references.
Y#115.1 represents a recognized die variety with subtle differences in character spacing that collectors have used to sequence production runs, though no firm mintage data survives for either variety.
