The Woudagemaal steam pumping station in Lemmer, Friesland, was built in 1920 and remains the largest steam-powered pumping station in the world still operating on steam. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 as part of the Dutch mill network — a recognition of the engineering required to keep low-lying polders habitable rather than submerged. This 2020 issue marks the centenary of the station's commissioning.
The .900 gold fraction places it in the pre-decimal Dutch gold tradition, though this is a modern commemorative with no circulation role whatsoever.
