Willem-Alexander turned 50 on April 27, 2017 — the same date as Koningsdag, since the national holiday is fixed to the reigning monarch's birthday. The Dutch mint has a long tradition of issuing commemorative silver 10-euro pieces for royal milestones, and this one falls squarely in that lineage without particular rarity to distinguish it. Mintage was capped for collector sales rather than circulation, the standard approach since the Netherlands withdrew silver from everyday coinage decades prior.
