Part of the Monnaie de Paris "Trésors de Paris" series, this issue commemorates the Winged Victory of Samothrace, which has been held at the Louvre since 1884 following French excavations on the Greek island of Samothrace in 1863. The sculpture arrived in Paris in pieces — the ship's prow base was only reunited with the figure decades after the initial discovery.
The 1950 restoration added a reconstructed left breast from a fragment found separately, a detail still debated by conservators.
