正面描述 A highly detailed engraving of the French ironclad warship La Gloire depicted in broadside profile, showing its full rigging of three masts with sails and the ironclad hull rendered in intricate relief, with stylized waves beneath the vessel. The lower portion of the design features the ship's armored hull plating in fine detail, conveying the vessel's historic significance as the world's first ocean-going ironclad warship. The inscription 'LA GLOIRE' appears prominently in the lower field, with the abbreviation 'RF' (République Française) directly below.

附加信息

La Gloire was a 74-gun ship of the line launched in 1756 and is best remembered as part of the Brest squadron during the Seven Years' War. France lost that war decisively, ceding vast colonial territories by the Treaty of Paris in 1763 — a defeat that directly accelerated the financial crisis feeding into the Revolution a generation later. The Monnaie de Paris issued this coin as part of its long-running "Grands Navires" series, which draws on France's maritime history selectively, favoring ships whose stories end badly.
