Reverse description The reverse depicts a detailed numismatic rendering of the celebrated Flemish Early Renaissance painting The Arnolfini Portrait (1434) by Jan van Eyck, showing the two standing figures of the couple facing one another at center, the man in a wide-brimmed hat and long robe to the left and the woman in an elaborate gown to the right, their hands joined in a gesture of betrothal. A convex mirror and a chandelier are rendered in the background field, faithfully evoking the iconographic program of the original oil painting. The legend THE ARNOLFINI PORTRAIT (1434) curves along the upper left rim, while JAN VAN EYCK is inscribed along the upper right in large incuse lettering.
