This piece belongs to Austria's "Himmelstreppen" (Stairways to Heaven) series, which ran from 2012 to 2016 and focused on Gothic ecclesiastical architecture across the country. St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna has served as a symbolic center of Austrian identity since the Habsburgs adopted it as their dynastic church in the fifteenth century — Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III is buried in the south chancel.
