Part of the Bank of Greece's ongoing national parks series, this issue commemorates the Valia Kalda wilderness in the Southern Pindos — one of the last refuges of the brown bear and grey wolf in Greece, and among the most remote mountain terrain on the Balkan peninsula. The park itself was established in 1966, largely in response to accelerating logging pressure on the old-growth fir forests of the Pindos range.
