Malta adopted the euro in 2008, making its central bank a relatively recent participant in the European collector coin market. The "Solaris" series, launched in the early 2020s, positions Malta among a growing number of small eurozone issuers producing large-format silver bullion-adjacent pieces aimed squarely at the international collector market rather than domestic circulation.
