Smoby, the French toy company best known for plastic playhouses and ride-on cars, produced this miniature play note as a prop accessory for its toy cash register and shopping sets. Fantasy issues of this type occupy an odd corner of notaphily — not legal tender, not intended for adult collectors, yet they accumulate a following precisely because major reference catalogs ignore them entirely.
The "Specimen" overprint suggests this particular example came from a product sample or trade fair batch rather than retail packaging.
