The Slovak Teachers' Choir — Slovenský učiteľský spevokol — was founded in 1921, making this coin a centenary issue. Established in Bratislava during the early years of Czechoslovakia, it was among the first significant choral institutions to form under the newly independent state, drawing its membership from the teaching profession at a moment when both education and national culture were being deliberately constructed as pillars of the young republic.
Slovakia's commemorative euro program has leaned heavily on cultural anniversaries since accession in 2009. This is one of the smaller-denomination silver issues in that series, struck to collector standards rather than for circulation.
