Beschrijving keerzijde A highly stylised and expressive portrait of the Irish playwright Samuel Beckett dominates the left portion of the field, rendered with deeply engraved facial lines conveying age and gravitas. To the right, a scene evoking his celebrated play Waiting for Godot is depicted, featuring two standing figures beneath a sparse, leafless tree, framed by sweeping curved lines suggesting a stark theatrical landscape. The denomination 10 EURO appears in the central field to the right of the portrait. A small mint mark is visible at the lower right of the design.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued as part of Ireland's ongoing commemorative program honoring Irish writers, this coin marks the centenary of Beckett's birth in 1906. Beckett remains one of the few Nobel laureates whose literary reputation rests substantially on work written in a language not his own — he composed the bulk of his major postwar work, including En attendant Godot, in French, then translated it himself into English.

KM#45 was struck at the Monnaie de Paris under contract, not at an Irish facility.
