Issued as part of the Monnaie de Paris "Régions françaises" series, this piece represents Réunion's status as an outre-mer department — fully integrated into the French Republic and the eurozone, despite sitting in the Indian Ocean some 9,000 kilometers from metropolitan France. The series ran across multiple years and covered all French regions, with the outre-mer territories included deliberately to reinforce their constitutional equivalence to mainland departments.
