Phryge — the mascot derived from the Phrygian cap worn by Marianne — was adopted as the official symbol of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the first time a French national emblem served directly as an Olympic mascot design. This coin is part of the sprawling commemorative program Monnaie de Paris issued around those Games, pairing the mascot with French architectural monuments. Strasbourg Cathedral, begun in 1015 and with its single completed spire reaching 142 meters, was the world's tallest building from 1647 until 1874.
