Phryge — the knit-capped figure derived from the Phrygian-cap mascots of Paris 2024 — was adopted as the official Olympic and Paralympic mascot and quickly became the first mascot to anchor a French collector coin series in decades. This piece was issued as part of a broader Monnaie de Paris program pairing the mascot with Parisian monuments, capitalizing on the unusual overlap of the Games with Notre-Dame's reopening in December 2024, the cathedral having been closed since the April 2019 fire.
