Beschrijving voorzijde The state coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino occupies the central field, depicting a crowned shield bearing three stylized towers on a mount, flanked by an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right. A ribbon scroll below the shield bears the national motto LIBERTAS. The circular legend REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO arcs around the upper periphery, while the engraver's signature A. NAPOLIONE appears in the lower field. The design is executed in high relief with a finely burnished finish.

Aanvullende informatie

San Marino's wildlife gold series has issued numerous small-format pieces over the past decade, but the peregrine falcon carries particular local relevance — the species nests in the Apennine cliffs surrounding the microstate and was historically associated with the falconry traditions of the medieval Italian courts that once competed for influence over San Marino's territory. The bird nearly vanished from the Italian peninsula entirely by the 1970s due to DDT-driven reproductive collapse, and recovery efforts across the region have only recently stabilized breeding populations.
