Austria's nine-province commemorative silver series, of which this Upper Austria issue is a part, ran through the 2010s with each coin allocated to a federal state and its defining cultural or natural character. Upper Austria — Oberösterreich — is the birthplace of Anton Bruckner and the industrial heartland of the republic, home to the Steyr arms works and the Linz steel complex that the Nazi regime built using forced labor from Mauthausen, roughly 25 kilometers away.
