Austria's nine-state commemorative silver series ran alongside a bronze-aluminum version sold at face value, with the silver strikes intended purely for collectors. Niederösterreich — the state surrounding but not including Vienna — is the largest of Austria's federal states by area, and its 2013 issue coincides with the broader federal commemorative program that cycled through all nine Bundesländer between 2008 and 2015.
The .925 fineness rather than the more common .900 used in earlier Austrian silver issues reflects a house standard adopted by the Vienna Mint after 2000.
