The Musée d'Orsay itself opened in December 1986 after a politically contentious conversion of the Gare d'Orsay — a Beaux-Arts railway terminus that had been slated for demolition as recently as 1970. The salvage campaign became a flashpoint in French debates over architectural preservation, with the building receiving a last-minute stay largely due to pressure following the destruction of Les Halles.
As of this writing, the coin has not yet been released; any circulation or mintage data remains unpublished by the Monnaie de Paris.
