Reverse description The reverse presents an elaborate allegorical composition set against a background evocative of the Musée d'Orsay's iconic glazed iron-and-glass roof structure rendered in fine detail across the square field. At the centre, a large circular medallion framed by ornate Art Nouveau ironwork displays a male portrait bust in high relief, accompanied by two sculpted figural groups and a bear, referencing celebrated works from the museum's collection. The date 2026 appears in a foliate cartouche at the base of the central medallion, flanked by decorative acanthus scrollwork. The composition references the museum's architectural heritage and its renowned sculpture collections in a dense, layered design of great artistic refinement.

Additional information

The Musée d'Orsay itself opened in December 1986 after a politically contentious conversion of the Gare d'Orsay — a Beaux-Arts railway terminus that had been slated for demolition as recently as 1970. The salvage campaign became a flashpoint in French debates over architectural preservation, with the building receiving a last-minute stay largely due to pressure following the destruction of Les Halles.

As of this writing, the coin has not yet been released; any circulation or mintage data remains unpublished by the Monnaie de Paris.
