| Reverse description | The reverse features a large, detailed bust of Maximilian Hell facing slightly to the right, portrayed wearing a heavy fur-trimmed winter coat and a knitted cap, recalling his famous 1769 Arctic expedition to Vardø, Norway. Behind and to the left of his effigy, a stylized representation of the transit of Venus across the solar disc is depicted, showing two small circular bodies against a large circular field — a reference to Hell's celebrated astronomical observations. Scattered six-pointed stars fill the remaining field. The name 'MAXIMILIÁN HELL' is inscribed in two lines curving along the upper left arc, and the birth and death years '1720' and '1792' appear in two lines to the lower left. |
