Obverse description The obverse features a portrait of Juan Sebastián de Elcano, derived from the painting held in the Naval Museum in Madrid, positioned centrally within the field. A compass rose is depicted above the portrait, while the coat of arms granted to Elcano by Emperor Charles V appears to the right. The lower portion of the field bears the Latin legend PRIMUS CIRCUMDEDISTI ME, the imperial motto awarded to Elcano in recognition of his achievement. Wind-rose grid lines extend across the background, evoking the cartographic and navigational character of the Age of Discovery. The country name ESPAÑA and the date 2022 appear within the legend.

Reverse description The reverse bears a full-color commemorative scene depicting the arrival of the Nao Victoria at the port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain, in September 1522, under the command of Juan Sebastián de Elcano accompanied by the seventeen surviving crew members of the Magellan-Elcano expedition — the first circumnavigation of the globe. The ship is rendered in vivid polychrome detail against a coastal and maritime background, celebrating the quincentenary of this landmark voyage. The denomination 10 EURO and the legend CENTENARIO DE LA VUELTA AL MUNDO are inscribed within the field, along with the mintmark M and the stylized letters MV referencing the expedition's vessel.
