Ľudmila Podjavorinská — pen name of Ľudmila Riznerová — was among the first Slovak women to achieve sustained recognition as a literary figure, publishing poetry and prose through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries at a time when Slovak-language publishing itself was politically constrained under Hungarian administration. This coin marks the 150th anniversary of her birth. The National Bank of Slovakia has issued a consistent series of cultural commemoratives in this silver format, with writers, scientists, and artists rotated through on anniversary schedules maintained well in advance.
