Issued as part of Monnaie de Paris's ongoing Saint-Exupéry licensing program, this piece marks the 70th anniversary of the novella's first French publication in 1945 — though the book had already appeared in New York in 1943, a detail the French commemorative calendar has historically preferred to sidestep. Saint-Exupéry himself disappeared over the Mediterranean in July 1944, never knowing the postwar reception his story would receive in France.
