| Additional information |
Le Petit Nicolas was created by René Goscinny and illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé, first appearing as a newspaper comic strip in 1959 before becoming one of the most translated French children's book series in history. Goscinny died in 1977, leaving Sempé as the sole surviving creator — a fact that gave the 2014 commemorative issue an added biographical weight, as Sempé was still alive and publicly involved in licensing decisions at the time of striking.
