Malta's Knights of Hospitaller period — roughly 1530 to 1798 — is a recurring subject for Maltese commemorative issues, and the Central Bank has returned to it multiple times across silver and gold programs. The 1565 Great Siege, the construction of Valletta, the elaborate fortification works funded by the Order's European commanderies: all of it makes for dense numismatic territory that the series mines with varying degrees of depth.
