Issued as part of Germany's long-running commemorative 10 Euro silver program, this piece marks the 225th anniversary of Schinkel's birth. Schinkel spent much of his career under Prussian patronage, eventually becoming the dominant architectural voice of 19th-century Berlin — responsible for the Neue Wache, the Altes Museum, and dozens of lesser-known structures that still define the city's neoclassical core. His influence extended well beyond Prussia; the Greek government consulted his designs when planning Athens after independence.
The Berlin Mint struck this issue, a fitting assignment given Schinkel's deep ties to that city.
