| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Juan Carlos I occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair. The circumferential legend reads JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA, divided by two small dot separators flanking the date 2003 at the base. The portrait is modeled in a restrained, contemporary style characteristic of Spanish commemorative coinage of the period. The broad mirror field provides a pronounced contrast to the frosted relief of the effigy. |

| Reverse description | The central field features a three-quarter bust of the Spanish conquistador and explorer Miguel López de Legazpi, depicted wearing period armor and a plumed hat, with a full beard rendered in high sculptural relief. Behind his left shoulder, an engraved outline of a period sailing vessel evokes his celebrated Pacific voyages. The legend MIGUEL LÓPEZ DE LEGAZPI arcs along the upper left periphery in bold curved lettering. To the right of the bust, the crowned Madrid mint mark appears above the denomination 10 EURO, displayed in two lines. The composition effectively combines portraiture with historical maritime imagery in a unified commemorative design. |
