| Beschrijving voorzijde | Left-facing effigy of King Juan Carlos I of Spain, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail of the monarch's hair and facial features. The portrait is unadorned and contemporary in style, occupying the central field of the coin. A beaded border frames the design. The legend JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA arcs along the upper periphery in capital Latin letters, while the date 2013 appears in the lower exergual area flanked by two raised dots. |

Spain entered the 2014 tournament as defending champions — they had won in 2010 and carried back-to-back European Championship titles from 2008 and 2012. The commemorative program accompanying the Brasil series was issued well before Spain's catastrophic group-stage exit, in which they were eliminated after losing 5–1 to the Netherlands, a rematch of the 2010 final.
