Part of the Monnaie de Paris's sprawling multi-year commemorative program ahead of the 2024 Paris Games, this piece was issued two years before the actual event — a scheduling decision driven by the sheer volume of collector issues in the series, which numbered well over a hundred distinct pieces across various metals and themes. The Place de la Concorde hosted breaking, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, and 3x3 basketball during the Games, marking the first Olympic use of a site better known for the guillotine executions of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
