Obverse description The obverse features a bold geometric design composed of interlocking diamond and octagonal frames rendered in incuse lines across the field. At center, the denomination '10' is displayed in large numerals accompanied by the word 'EURO' to its left, flanked by two sprigs of foliage — an olive branch above and an oak branch below — symbolizing the French Republic. The legend 'RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' arcs around the design, with the date '2017' positioned vertically along the right inner border. The overall composition reflects the modern graphic style adopted by the Monnaie de Paris for its commemorative euro series.

Additional information

This piece belongs to Gaultier's "Régions gourmandes" series commissioned by the Monnaie de Paris, in which the designer — better known for corsets and sailor stripes than coin work — contributed a set of regional French food-themed issues. The Alsace entry nods to choucroute and Kougelhopf territory, rendered in Gaultier's characteristically irreverent graphic idiom. The .333 fineness places it firmly in billon territory, too silver-poor to attract bullion interest but enough to justify the collector premium over face value.
