| Obverse description | A large quill feather dominates the central field, symbolising the art of writing and poetry. Surrounding the feather, four celebrated literary quotations are inscribed in cursive script, attributed respectively to Voltaire, Dante Alighieri, Shakespeare, and Nietzsche, rendered in their original languages. | Reverse description | A profile portrait of the celebrated French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine occupies the upper portion of the reverse field. The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, with which La Fontaine had a close historical association, is rendered in the lower portion of the field.
