To the left of the portrait, Matúška's facsimile signature is rendered in cursive script, adding an intimate biographical element to the design. The legend 'JANKO MATÚŠKA' arcs along the upper left field, with his birth and death years '1821' and '1877' inscribed vertically along the lower left margin.
