Henri I, Count of Luxembourg from 1059 to 1096, was reputedly descended from Melusina — the water fairy of medieval Lusignan legend who appeared in numerous dynastic origin myths across French and Luxembourgish noble houses. The House of Luxembourg leaned into this genealogy deliberately; it lent a supernatural legitimacy that cold bloodlines alone could not provide.
