Austria's "Heavenly Messengers" series ran from 2016 to 2018, covering the four archangels recognized in Western tradition. Uriel completed the set. The coins were struck in niobium-center bimetallic format for the collector series, but this copper issue is the base-metal companion piece — produced for general sale rather than the numismatic editions that drew most of the collector attention.
Uriel's canonical status is notably contested: he appears in 1 Enoch and 2 Esdras but was formally excluded from official Catholic veneration by the Synod of Rome in 745 AD under Pope Zachary.
