The "Heavenly Messengers" series ran from 2017 to 2019, covering Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael across three annual releases. Raphael's association with healing derives primarily from the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, where he cures Tobit's blindness — a text accepted as canonical by Catholic and Orthodox traditions but excluded from the Protestant canon, which gives this figure an interestingly confessional edge for a state mint issue.
The colored variant was struck alongside a non-colored version, with the applied color distinguishing it in the secondary market rather than in legal tender status — both carry identical face value.
