The "Heavenly Messengers" series ran across several issues in the mid-2010s, each dedicating a release to one of the named angels of Abrahamic tradition. Michael occupies a specific rank in that tradition — venerated across Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as a warrior and protector, and formally designated a patron saint of soldiers in Catholic doctrine. The Austrian Mint's colored variant applies enamel or pigment to the surface during finishing, a production step that limits die reuse and results in lower effective output than standard strikes of the same type.
