| Obverse description | The central field displays the Maltese coat of arms: a shield bearing the George Cross on a vertically striped field, surmounted by a mural crown and flanked by olive and palm branches, with a scroll inscribed REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA at the base. The arms are set within a raised inner circle, against a geometric background of intersecting diagonal planes radiating outward to the rim. The legend GOTHIC arcs across the upper field, with REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA running clockwise along the inner border.
