| Aanvullende informatie |
Gálvez is one of the more remarkable figures in American Revolutionary history who never appears in American textbooks. As Governor of Louisiana and later Captain General of Cuba, he led Spanish forces against British positions across the Gulf Coast between 1779 and 1781 — taking Baton Rouge, Mobile, and finally Pensacola without a single French or American soldier under his command. Congress awarded him honorary American citizenship posthumously in 2014, making him only the eighth person ever to receive that distinction.
