The creature is rendered in polychrome trencadís ceramic tilework in shades of blue, purple, red, green, and yellow, faithfully reproducing Gaudí's celebrated design. In the background, the coloured colonnade and staircase of the park's monumental zone are partially visible in colour. Park Güell was never meant to be a public park. Eusebi Güell commissioned Gaudí in 1900 to develop a private garden city for Barcelona's wealthy elite — sixty plots, only two of which ever sold. The project was abandoned by 1914, and the Barcelona city council acquired the grounds in 1922, three years before Gaudí's death. The centenary this coin marks almost certainly references the 2026 anniversary of his death following the tramway accident of June 1926.
