Gaisce — the Irish word for "achievement" or "feat" — is a presidential awards scheme established in 1985 under the patronage of the Irish head of state, modeled closely on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. This coin was issued to mark the program's 25th anniversary. Participation requires young people to complete challenges across physical activity, personal skill, and community involvement, with the Gold Award demanding a four-day wilderness journey.
