Obverse description The inner disc depicts an astronaut standing on the lunar surface, with the iconic bootprint impressions visible in the foreground. The Moon is rendered in fine detail at center, surrounded by a border of applied blue resin evoking the cosmos, while the Earth appears in the far background. The monogram RF appears in the field, denoting the French Republic. The colored resin treatment gives the piece a distinctive bi-material appearance consistent with the French commemorative series.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, this piece was part of a broader European commemorative wave in 2019 — France, Germany, and several other mints all produced silver issues that year for the occasion. The Monnaie de Paris entry came with an unusual concave die treatment on the reverse, a technical choice that required adjusted striking pressure and gives the coin a distinctly sculptural quality in hand.
